The austenitic stainless steel alloy 321 (UNS S32100) has titanium stabilization and good corrosion resistance. After being exposed to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C), it exhibits excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. Compared to alloys 304 and 304L, the alloy has higher creep and stress rupture qualities and is resistant to oxidation up to 1500°F (816°C). It is also quite tough at low temperatures.
The alloy with a higher carbon content (0.04–0.010) is designated Alloy 321H (UNS S 32109) stainless steel plate. At temperatures above 1000 °F (537 °C), it was intended to improve creep resistance and strength. Most of the time, dual certification is allowed due to the plate's carbon content.
